CAPTAIN Youth and Family Services is searching for volunteers from the community to help out with a variety of programs. Do you have a few extra hours a month and want to donate your time to a fabulous LOCAL service agency? Specifically, we are in need of volunteers for the following programs/times:
--The Homework Help Program located at Cheryl’s Lodge, is in need of volunteers who enjoy working with children and are willing to help out a few times each month during the school year. No teaching experience is necessary. Volunteers help students with their homework, read to children or work on simple craft projects. Hours: Mondays, Tuesdays or Thursdays from 2:40 – 3:45, (grades K-5) Mon., Tues., Wed. & Thursdays from 4-6:00pm (grades 6-12)
--Outreach in the Park Friday Drop in Center seeks volunteers to supervise teens having fun during movie and game nights along with basic homework assistance. Hours: Fridays from 4-7:00pm
--The CAPTAIN Administrative office seeks a volunteer for clerical and general office duties. Looking for someone who would like to help with answering phones, light data entry and processing mail. Hours: 9:30-12:30 any two or three days a week
--The CAPTAIN Food Pantry is in need of a volunteer “coordinator.” This individual should be a people person, enjoy organizing large quantities of donated goods, desire to work as a “shopping assistant” and have a valid NYS drivers license to help with picking up food at the Regional Food Bank in Latham. Hours: Mon, Tues & Thursday from 10-3:00pm
--The Teen Talk program needs volunteers to supervise trained Shen students staffing a listening and help line. Volunteers will be asked to commit to at least two shifts per month. Hours: 6-8:00pm on school days
