Bike Works

In partnership with Elks Lodge 2466, CAPTAIN received a National Elks Foundation Impact Grant to develop a youth bike program in the Clifton Park Community. The program provides bikes to youth in Clifton Park and Halfmoon who have no bicycle and are willing to invest some time to learn the basics of bike safety and how to maintain a bike.

Through this joint venture, new and used bikes will be distributed to 8-18 year old youths for recreation and transportation. With a focus on education and developing a sustained commitment to biking, Elks members and CAPTAIN community volunteers will teach bike safety, and maintenance and repair to area youth throughout the spring and summer months.

The vision of Bike Works is to give really, really cool bikes to youth who would otherwise never be able to own a bike. We are proud to embark on a program that encourages healthy activity, environmentally friendly transportation, and assists youth with transportation for summer jobs, and has its roots in community involvement and volunteerism. CAPTAIN is currently seeking donations of new bikes or pre-owned bikes in excellent condition. As spring rolls around, please consider donating outgrown bikes to the Bike Works program. Call CAPTAIN at 371-1185 for details on how and when to donate.
